Focus on Prevention Committee Co-Chairs Spearhead Apartments for Homeless Young Adults
By Kate Trompetter 11 Apr, 2022
California's State initiative, Project Homekey, managed by the California Department of Housing and Community Development, has awarded Modesto $3.9 Million to convert a downtown office building into a 14-unit apartment facility for homeless young people between the ages of 18 and 25. Focus on Prevention's Steering Committee co-chairs Cindy Duenas and Brad Hawn led the efforts to create this in our community. Cindy serves as Executive Director for the Center for Human Services, and her organization will manage this as their first permanent housing project for homeless young adults. Brad co-owns the building and has long been involved in improving Stanislaus County neighborhoods and directly addressing homelessness issues in our area. The team is expecting this renovation to be completed by the end of 2022 and is a great example of how, by collective efforts, we can effectively address the important issues in our communities.
